MIL: Guest nights higher in April

MIL OSI – Source: Statistics New Zealand – Guest nights higher in April National guest nights for April 2015 were 3.6 percent higher than in April 2014, Statistics New Zealand said today. “Most of the rise for April was from international guest nights,” business indicators manager Neil Kelly said. “Visitor arrivals from overseas were up despite earlier Easter and school holidays in 2015 than in 2014.” For April 2015, compared with April 2014:

• Domestic guest nights were up 1.6 percent, and international guest nights were up 6.7 percent.
• North Island guest nights were up 4.9 percent, and South Island guest nights were up 1.6 percent.
• Nine of the 12 regional areas had higher guest nights.
• All four accommodation types had higher guest nights.

For the year ended April 2015, national guest nights were up 5.4 percent from the April 2014 year. After removing seasonal variation, national guest nights fell 0.7 percent in April 2015, compared with March 2015. This follows rises in the previous two months. The trend for national guest nights continued to rise. The Accommodation Survey collects data for guests staying in hotels, motels, backpacker accommodation, and holiday parks in New Zealand each month.
