Prime Minister Peter O’Neill announced today that a Commission of Inquiry will be established as soon as possible to investigate this morning’s police shooting at the University of PNG campus.
Parliament was told that up to four students were believed shot dead and at least 13 were wounded, news reports said.
Responding to question by the MP for Rabaul, Dr Allan Marat, in Parliament, O’Neill accused certain leaders for inciting the protest at the Waigani campus that led to this morning’s shooting.
A frustrated Northern Governor, Gary Juffa urged the Prime Minister not to falsely accuse Members of the Opposition for inciting this situation.
The Prime Minister said the incident was unfortunate but it was now a police matter and the inquiry would get to the bottom of it, reported PNGFM.
