COMMENTARY: By Maher Nazzal
Thousands of people took to the streets across Aotearoa New Zealand on Saturday, standing in solidarity with Palestine as part of the Global Day of Action. Yet where was the media coverage?
From Auckland to Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, and communities across the country, people turned out to demand justice, freedom and an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people.
These are not insignificant gatherings. These are people exercising their democratic right to protest, raising their voices against injustice and demanding accountability.

When thousands take to the streets for Palestine, that is news. When their voices are barely heard, that raises serious questions about media priorities.
Whose voices are being amplified, and whose are being pushed to the margins?
New Zealanders deserve journalism that reflects what is happening in their communities — not selective silence when the issue is Palestine.
The media cannot claim to represent the public while overlooking thousands of people demanding justice.
Palestine is not going away. Our voices are not going away. And neither is our demand for justice.
Do your job. Cover the protests. Let the public see what is happening.
